While dealing with the representatives of a different country, different culture or different religion they and we can make, completely subconsciously, faux-pas or, God forbid, to slight. Professional preparation, especially in the presence of the cultural counsellor, helps to read properly non-verbal and verbal messages. This is not a simple translation – the translator usually translates the meaning of the words expressed. The professional cultural counsellor focuses primarily on behaviour, appropriate targeting of conversations, preventing faux-pas, explaining other cultural behaviours, which in turn is to show respect for both sides of contact and let the business develop as well as possible and as quickly as possible.

With private counselling, the counsellor can help one to understand this different culture, especially in terms of cultural differences in everyday life and family life, which – contrary to appearances – differs much more than we can see at first glance. Luckily there is a possibility to avoid unneeded misunderstandings and also open the possibility for conversations and discussions of important topics at the beginning of the common road which can help avoid a lot of problems in the future. In such cases I recommend having sessions in an individual way, in couples or in groups.

Managing such meetings is much more individual than in terms of the lessons, lectures and training. It is difficult to judge in advance and outline a general framework for everybody.
